Holden’s Jamie Whincup has continued his quick start to the V8 Supercars Bathurst 1000 endurance event by topping Friday’s practice timesheets.
The three-time Bathurst winner, who was quickest in Thursday’s practice, clocked a best lap of two minutes and 7.5000 seconds at the Mount Panorama circuit to finish ahead of teammate Craig Lowndes in the 50-minute session.
Lowndes, the race favourite, posted a best time of 2:08.0785 while Ford’s Will Davison was third-fastest with a 2:08.2265.
Davison’s teammate Mark Winterbottom was eighth fastest while defending Bathurst champion Garth Tander came in 12th quickest in a session that was twice halted by single-car accidents.
Tony D’Alberto was the first driver to find trouble while Ford’s Tim Slade also stopped midway through the session but both drivers and their vehicles will be OK to compete in Friday’s qualifying session.
The 40-minute all-in qualifying run will determine the runners for Saturday’s top 10 shootout as well as grid positions 11-29 for Sunday’s 1000km race.
The qualifying session begins at 2.45pm AEST.
