Lieb tops co-driver field at Surfers V8s

German Marc Lieb posted the fastest times in practice sessions for the international co-drivers on Friday at the Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercars event.

Lieb topped the timesheets in both 40-minute sessions reserved for the international stars competing alongside the V8 regulars on the streets of Surfers Paradise this weekend.

The Le Mans Series driver, who is partnered with Holden’s Jonathon Webb, clocked a best lap of one minute and 12.4673 seconds on the 2.96km street circuit to finish ahead of Australian IndyCar star Ryan Briscoe (1:12.6980) and France’s Simon Pagenaud (1:12.7036).

The two co-driver sessions weren’t without incident, with American Boris Said, Scot Peter Dumbreck, Holland’s Peter Kox and Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi all having moments of concern.

Earlier in the day, it was championship contender Will Davison who posted the fastest time of the first session which featured the regular drivers as well as the overseas guests.

Davison came in fastest ahead of Holden’s Greg Ritter and his Ford Performance Racing teammate Mark Winterbottom.

The day’s fourth and final session, which is open to the entire field, begins at 3.35pm (AEST).
