F1 race in New Jersey set to be postponed

A Formula One race originally planned for next year in New Jersey is expected to be postponed.

Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner told The Jersey Journal that the race is being rescheduled for 2014.

The newspaper said Turner and another unnamed mayor claim organisers are behind on road repairs and permits.

A spokesman for New Jersey race promoter Leo Hindery Jr declined to comment on the report.

The inaugural Grand Prix of America is planned to run along the Hudson River through the towns of Weehawken and West New York in New Jersey.

It was listed on the FIA calendar for June 16 in 2013, with an asterisk next to it, indicating “to be confirmed”.
