William Reid Stakes 2013 nominations for Black Caviar

Champion Black Caviar has been entered for next month’s William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley which could signal her farewell to Melbourne racing.

The Moonee Valley Racing Club brought the nominations forward to Monday for the William Reid on March 22 to begin planning for the night meeting.

“If Black Caviar was to contest the William Reid Stakes, the Club would expect a capacity crowd to witness one of the historic moments in Australian racing,” MVRC chief executive Michael Browell said.

The unbeaten mare returned with a track record-breaking win in the Group One Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) on Saturday, taking her record to 23 wins from 23 starts.

The William Reid or the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington, where she would have to carry 61.5kg, are considered the options for her next start.

Acceptances for the William Reid will be taken on March 18 and race times will be altered to maximise the occasion.

The meeting would start at 5.45pm and the William Reid Stakes would be the final race at 9.45pm with an hour’s gap from the second last event.

Among the 34 notable entries for the William Reid are unbeaten West Australian sprinter Barakey who makes his eastern seaboard debut in Saturday’s Oakleigh Plate, globetrotting sprinter Ortensia, and Manikato Stakes winner Sea Siren.
