1. TULLAMORE

Last year’s Brisbane Cup winner who failed to live up to expectations in a short Autumn campaign earlier this year. His form last spring was solid and included a third in Caulfield Cup behind Southern Speed. Has had two barrier trials in preparation for his return to racing here but will need this run and 2000+ before we see the best of him.

2. FAST CLIP

Stable-mate to Tullamore and the second of three Gai Waterhouse runners. Hasn’t missed a place in four first up runs, his most recent return to racing was a close up third behind smart performer Ofcourseican in the Liverpool City Cup (G3). Looked ready to produce in a recent Barrier Trial and has a smart record on dry – four wins and three seconds form nine starts.

3. CENTENNIAL PARK

On the quick back up from a weakening seventh of nine (beaten 4.8) in the Warwick Stakes (G2) last week when ridden forward. Better suited back to the 1400m and will be ridden more quietly today. Is fit and worth plenty of thought at $6.00

4. DYSTOPIA

Multiple Listed winning mare from Chris Waller’s stables taking on Group company for the first time. Won the Listed Toy Show first up three weeks ago beaten Crafty Irna and Irish Dream. Drawn well here and will be leading or on pace throughout but will she be able to stave off the challenges over this trip?

5. FAT AL

Third of Waterhouse’s runners who returns to racing here with an imposing record of five wins from seven career starts including the Group 3 Carbine Club and Frank Parker Plate. Has been readied for his return with two barrier trials and will likely push forward from his wide draw.

6. AMBIDEXTER

Smart Commands 4yo from the Darley camp who was came agonisingly close in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (fourth, beaten ¾) and Rosehill Guineas (fourth, beaten ½). Looked good in running second in a recent barrier trial (Fast Clip ran third) but being first up and taking on the older horses for the first time, happy to watch and learn with him here.

7. LEVI’S CHOICE

Stayer who returned to racing after an eight month lay-off with a ninth of thirteen in an Open Class event four weeks back. Both efforts to date in Listed company have been average and expect he’ll be struggling here.

8. WATERFORD HILL

Melbourne visitor from the Leon Corstens yard who has strung three wins together this time in culminating in a comfortable 2 ¼ victory at Caulfield in a RST 82 event. Different ball game here though.

OVERVIEW

As the early market suggests, this is a tough race. Early favourite (Thursday a.m.) is Dystopia $3.50. She’s drawn well here and hasn’t missed a place here from six starts but will be kept honest throughout by Fat Al and a slight query remains over the distance. Fast Clip should be stalking the leaders throughout and given his past first up efforts over 1300m, the seven furlongs here looks ideal. Rate him on top at $4.00 Centennial Park ($6.00) could easily turns things around from last week when distance and race pattern didn’t suit.
