The Mittys Vanity 2013 tips, preview and selections

The feature for the three year old fillies is The Mitty’s Vanity with thirteen entered. Of the field, only Petite Diablesse is a last start winner. Coupled with four of the runners returning from spells, it has created a wide market headed by Spending at $4.60.

The Mittys Vanity Form Guide

1. KAZANLUK – (7) K McEvoy

Finished hard to claim the G2 Fillies Classic at Moonee Valley during the Spring before failing by a head, under 60kgs, at his next and most recent start in the Listed Myer Fashion (1800m). Well bred filly who has had the one barrier trial and the seven furlongs first up should suit.

Odds: $8.00

2. ALZORA – (10) N Hall

Only the one win from ten starts, that coming in the Listed Ethereal Stakes (2000m) defeating Summerbliss at Caulfield last October. First up today and hasn’t been seen at the trials. She’s likely to need the hit-out first up here.

Odds: $26.00

3. SPENDING – (3) C Williams.

Impressive win on debut, when closing from the tail of the field to score a long neck win over Alghus here at Flemington middle of January. Draw wide at next and most recent start and was taken to the front but enable to hold off late challengers, finishing fifth of nine (beaten 2.4 lengths). Better draw today should mean that she’s ridden more quietly and expect a better effort.

Odds: $4.60

4. LEGCUT – (4) D Dunn

Has had three runs back this time in for Trainer John McArdle with the most recent being last week, where she finished three lengths behind Octavia in the Listed Kevin Hayes Stakes. Generally gets back and the step up to 1400m should suit. Not to be underestimated.

Odds: $15.00

5. ROYAL SCANDAL – (1)

Held on to score a nose victory two starts back in a Ballarat Class 1 before finding the rise to city class to steep and finishing fourth (beaten 2 ¼ lengths) behind Winta Chiller in a BM 78. Will go forward from her inside draw, but will find other here too good.

Odds: $8.50

6. NADEEM LASS – (6) C Newitt

Broke her maiden status when resuming from a spell in December, four starts back in a Ballarat Maiden and has gotten back in the field at her most recent starts for a sixth (behind Summer Gem) and a last start, a seventh of nine (behind Winta Chiller). Expected a bit more from her last start and on that effort, think she would need to improve too much to figure here.

Odds: $13.00

7. PETITE DIABLESSE – (5) V Duric

Won a Kyneton Maiden when resuming by 3 ¼ and proved it no fluke but stepping at her next and most recent start and, winning a RST 72 by half a length defeating Beaumaris. Drawn to get a nice run here, just off the pace and although this tougher, might still be on the up.

Odds: $8.00

8. YOU’RE SO GOOD – (8) G Boss

Defied her price of 14/1 to win on debut at Moonee Valley by 1 ¼ lengths over Great Game before a freshen up of eight weeks and returning with a head second to Red Fez in a RST 68 at Sandown earlier this month. Will have benefited from that run but faces an awkward draw here.

Odds: $4.60

9. BALUCH – (11)

Well bred filly by Hard Spun who faces the starter for the first time since finishing sixth of sixteen (beaten 3 ¼ ) behind Philippi in the UCI Stakes (1800m). That followed up a good effort behind Hvaastan at her start prior. She probably needs this and longer, but keep on eye on her finishing late.

Odds: $41.00

10. KOCHAMMA – (9)

Started 5/4 favourite in a Warwick Farm BM 75 after having impressively won a Ballarat Maiden by 2 ¾ lengths at the start prior but could only manage third (beaten 1 ¾) behind Golden Sunshine. Freshened up for eleven weeks be her return in a Caulfield Open (1100m) didn’t enthuse as she weakened to finish last of nine.

Odds: $67.00

11. ROYAL AMATI – (4)

A very well bred daughter of Danehill Dancer that races under the Coolmore banner and who is in the care of Trainer David Hayes. She scored her maiden victory at Seymour in 1600m Maiden before coming to town and finishing fourth (beaten 2.7 lengths) behind Keep De Rose in a RST 72 at Flemington in November.

Odds: $41.00

12. ARE THERE ANY – (12)

Peter Moody trained galloper who, as expected (started 2/1 on) was too good on debut when winning a Stawell Maiden and then, despite the rise in grade, closed well from the tail of the field to finish third (beaten ½ length) behind Winta Chiller in a BM 78 at Caulfield. Showed enough in her two starts to be considered here but fancy from an outside draw, she’ll be close to last throughout.

Odds: $7.00

13. SHILLY SHALLY MISS – (13)

Filly by Artie Schiller by well performed mare Out of The Woods who recorded a half length win on debut at Kyneton before running fourth (beaten 2.2 lengths) to Papillon in a BM 72 at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago. Drawn the outside here and will find this tougher than her last start.

Odds: $26.00

OVERVIEW

Spending will be ridden more quietly today and think it’ll pay to forgive an forget last start, she can bounce back to winning form here. Scouting wider in the market though, believe Legcut, who from four might not or should not get back as far as she did last start, might be able to run a cheeky race – especially if any sting is out of the track. Baluch and Kazanluk are the class runners of the race and both can produce efforts fresh here.
