Spring Champion Stakes goes to It’s A Dundeel

New Zealand three-year-old It’s A Dundeel has produced an upset to claim the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick.

Expected to find Gai Waterhouse’s odds-on favourite Proisir too sharp in the Group One, It’s A Dundeel emerged as the superior stayer when it counted most.

Making it five wins from his only five starts, the Murray Baker-trained colt overhauled Proisir in the final 100m.

The first two horses dominated the finish with Honorius well beaten in third place.

It’s A Dundeel will now head to Melbourne where he will be chasing more Group One success in next month’s Victoria Derby.

“He really digs deep in the last 100 metres (and) he really finds another gear,” Baker said.
