The Roman Consul Stakes is a Group 2 set weight race for three year old horses, hosted by the Australian Turf Club at Randwick Racecourse.  Held over 1200 metres, this race is held on the same day as a number of prestigious Group 1 races – the Epsom Handicap, the Spring Champion Stakes, the Flight Stakes, and The Metropolitan.

The Roman Consul has been run since 1979, originally as a Listed race until 1985.  It was then that this event reached Group 3 status, later graduating to Group 2 status in 2005.  This event can be a good stepping stone to group races in later seasons, with Our Maizcay, Anthems, Encounter, Exceed, and Excel all going on to great things after winning this event.

The 2011 edition of the Roman Consul was won by Foxwedge, who dictated terms from the start in what was a very small field.  Foxwedge held out challenges from Masthead and Do You Think, who came it at second and third respectively.
