Robert Sangster Stakes Tips, Field Preview and Selections – 2020

The Robert Sangster Stakes for the Fillies and Mares over 1200m is one of two Group 1 features on the first Group 1 Race Day of the 2020 Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival at Morphettville on Saturday.

Group 1 winning mares Sunlight and I Am Excited headline the final field of sixteen plus two emergencies and get the chance to add another major win to their already impressive records.

The James Cummings trained Savatiano has been Group 1 placed twice in the past and has a great opportunity to join the Group 1 winner’s club on the weekend while the smart two year old filly Away Game is set to take on the older fillies and mares with a feather weight on her back.

We have analysed the entire field and our complete 2020 Robert Sangster Stakes tips can be found below!

Sunlight

Three times Group 1 winner Sunlight was beaten first up when second to Gytrash in the Group 3 R N Irwin Stakes over 1100m at Morphettville on April 18. The Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained mare has a better second up record than first up record and she will be hard to beat back against the fillies and mares even after drawing a very wide gate.

I Am Excited

I Am Excited claimed her first Group 1 winning trophy two starts back when she scored a nose victory over Miss Leonidas in the Galaxy over 1100m at Rosehill on March 21 and then finished fifth in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes over 1200m at Randwick April 11. The David Pfieffer trained mare will get a nice run from barrier five and will be storming home at the finish. Strong chance.

Savatiano

Savatiano is yet to win at Group 1 level but has been placed twice, her latest was a second to The Bostonian in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick three starts back. The James Cummings trained mare’s latest run saw her finish sixth in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick and has to be considered at her best.

Madam Rouge

Madam Rouge was at her best in January when she won the $1m Magic Millions Snippets (1200m) at the Gold Coast but has failed to run a place at two runs during the 2020 Sydney Autumn Carnival. The Chris Waller trained mare will jump from the middle of the field and look for her solid finish over the concluding stages.

Teleplay

The Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr) trained Teleplay has good recent winning form in Melbourne in Group 3 company at Flemington and Sandown before finishing third in the 1200m VOBIS Gold Sprint at Caulfield on April 18. Up in class here but drawn in close and has a strong finish.

Bam’s On Fire

Bam’s On Fire has been racing very consistently with three seconds at Group 2 and Group 3 level before being rewarded with a win in the Group 3 Anniversary Cup over 1400m at Caulfield on April 11. The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained Bam’s On Fire will wear the blinkers for the first time, will race handy and the stable is in top form. Can be considered a genuine each way chance.

Spanish Whipser

Spanish Whipser has failed to run a place at three runs this campaign and will be tested from a wide gate. The Lope de Vega mare finished almost four lengths behind Bam’s On Fire in the Group 3 Anniversary Cup over 1400m at Caulfield on April 11.

Humma Humma

Humma Humma ran home from the back last start when second in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on April 18 but will find this tougher and is yet to win beyond 1100m.

Embrace Me

Embrace was tested at Group 1 level last start when eighth in the William Reid Stakes (1200m) at The Valley on March 20. Has had a freshen up but will be tested from a very wide barrier.

Bella Vella

Bella Vella is the winner of her last two starts at The Valley and Morphettville Parks but will find this a lot tougher than her last start win in the Listed Furphy Stakes (1000m) at Morphettville Parks.

Amberdi

Amberdi was well beaten at her latest outing and will find this tougher than her ninth in the Listed Manihi Classic (1100m) at Morphettville.

Everyday Lady

Everyday Lady is unplaced from her two runs this campaign in weaker company and will find this a lot harder.

Street Icon

Street Icon is still eligible for restricted class but ran an improved race when second to Vainstream in the VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m) at Caulfield on April 18. Tougher here.

Beautiful Flyer

Beautiful Flyer looks well held here on her latest eleventh in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on April 18.

Lyre

Three year old filly Lyre meets the older mares slightly better at the weights and will wear the blinkers for the first time following her latest fourth as favourite in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on April 18.  Won the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield during her two year old season and has each way claims at her best.

Away Game

Tough two year old filly Away Game has had a long hard campaign but must have pleased trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace if they have decided to make the trip to Adelaide. Away Game won the $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast in January, finished fourth in the 2020 Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield, was runner up in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill before winning the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick at her last outing. Only has to carry 47kg and will be right in the finish with that light weight.

Mystery Love

First emergency Mystery Love is a last start winner in a BenchMark 90 Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield but is facing a much tougher assignment here.

Kenyan Wonder

Kentyan Wonder is well out of her class here following a last start fifth in the Group 3 R N Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on April18.
