Australasian Oaks Tips, Field Preview and Selections – 2020

The Australasian Oaks is one of two Group 1 features on the first Group 1 Race Day of the 2020 Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival at Morphettville on Saturday.

A final field of sixteen fillies plus four emergencies make up the 2000m Australasian Oaks which now goes under the race name of the Schweppes Oaks.

Trainer Chris Waller won the Australasian Oaks three years ago with his tough staying filly Egg Tart and the champion trainer has three strong chances this year to collect the major portion of the $400,000 on offer with Nudge, Betcha Flying and Toffee Tongue.

Fascino

Fascino was returning to her best with a third in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 7 but then failed in two runs in Sydney during the Autumn Carnival. The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained filly was always near the tail of the field when eighth in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill and was then eased out of the race in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on Day One of The Championships on April4. Has a lot of ground to make up.

Nudge

Nudge is the first of the Chris Waller trained filly to line up in the Australasian Oaks and is one of the top chances after some solid form during the Sydney Autumn Carnival. Nudge stuck on solidly when third in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill and then finished fourth in the 2020 Australian Oaks over 2400m at Randwick. Top each way chance.

Moonlight Maid

The Mitchell Freedman trained Moonlight Maid is fitter for two runs this time in for a sixth in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) at The Valley on March 20 followed by a fifth in the VOBIS Sires Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on April 18. Stepping up in grade here.

Asiago

Asiago got one of the visitor’s draw with barrier seventeen in the original draw but also has to improve on her last start seventh in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 18.

Vegas Jewel

Vegas Jewel showed plenty of potential during the 2019 Melbourne Spring Carnival with a second in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Day One of Melbourne Cup week but has failed to fire at two runs this preparation. Vegas Jewel was always near the tail of the field at her latest outing when twelfth in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 18. Has many lengths to make up to be a threat.

La Falaise

La Falaise has been well beaten at her four runs this preparation and is ranked as one of the outsiders of  the Australasian Oaks at Ladbrokes.com.au. Trainer Henry Dwyer has put the blinkers on La Falaise hoping for some improvement on her last start eighth in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 18.

Betcha Flying

Betcha Flying flew into Australasian Oaks contention with a tough win in a 1700m 3yo Handicap at Flemington last Saturday and she has a great chance to give trainer Chris Waller another Australasian Oaks trophy. One of the top chances.

Wings Of Pastrami

Wings Of  Pastrami has the job to fly the flag for South Australia and if she runs up to recent form has a great chance to figure in a share of the prizemoney. The Jeff Searle trained filly was beaten a nose when runner up in the Listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on April 4 followed by a fourth in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 18.

Toffee Tongue

Toffee Tongue is still classed as a Maiden galloper but on her recent form during the 2020 Sydney Autumn Carnival has a great chance to crack her initial win at Group 1 level in the Australasian Oaks. The Chris Waller trained filly has been runner up at her last four starts including a second in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on Day One of The Championships followed by a second in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick a week later. One of the top chances.

Silent Sovereign

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained Silent Sovereign put herself into Australasian Oaks contention with a last start win in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 18. Has to be considered as one of the main players here.

Selica

Selica ran her best recent race last start when runner up in Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 18. Has drawn awkwardly and place chances at best.

Beauty Bolt

Beauty Bolt is stepping up sharply in grade and distance following her latest eight in a 1400m 3yo Fillies Handicap at Caulfield on April 4. Harder here.

Sierra Sue

Sierra Sue has won three of her four race starts but is still eligible for restricted class following her last start win in a 1732m BenchMark 64 Handicap at Sale.

Affair To Remember

Affair To Remember ran on from the back to claim a nose win in a 1600m BenchMark 64 Handicap at Sandown on April 1 and then made up plenty of ground from the rear when third in the VOBIOS Sires Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on April 18. Gets back and will be running on again.

Zayydani

The Lindsay Park trained Zayydani has fair form in much weaker company and heads to Morphettville on the back of a second in a 1600m BenchMark 78 Handicap at Sandown on April 8. Eligible for something easier.

Walking Flying

Walking Flying is another filly from Lindsay Park who has finished third at her last two starts, including a last start third in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 18. Place chances at best.

November Dreaming

First emergency November Dreaming scored n easy last start win in a 1600m Pakenham Class 1 on April 16 but is way out of here class here.

Don’ttelltheboss

Don’ttelltheboss looks tested on her latest fourth in the VOBIOS Sires Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on April 18.

Realm Of Flowers

Realm Of Flowers made up some ground from the back when third in the Listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on April 4 but then never threatened when sixth in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 18.

Miss Harriette

Miss Harriette is way out of her class coming off a win in a 2000m BenchMark 58 Handicap at Wangaratta on April 16.
