Nathan Berry excited about Melbourne Cup 2012 day

Nathan Berry has heard his twin brother rave about his Melbourne Cup day experience and is keen to get a taste of the same.

On Tuesday he will get the chance to soak up the atmosphere for himself with a ride on the undercard to the big race at Flemington.

Nathan's brother Tommy will be riding Glencadam Golde in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup

He will then get to watch his brother Tommy ride in his first Melbourne Cup aboard the Gai Waterhouse-trained Glencadam Gold.

Nathan Berry has the ride on the Grahame Begg-trained Sense Of Pride in a 1700m mares race early in the day.

“It will be my first Melbourne Cup day and I’m really looking forward to it,” Berry said.

“Tom always talks about when he went down to ride Karuta Queen in a race on Cup day last year and then watched the Melbourne Cup from up in the clock tower.

“He said not even riding in the Cup but just being in the clock tower watching it was one of the best things he’s ever done.

“To have a ride on the day will be a great thrill. I think she’s a live chance, and then I’ll stand in that tower and watch my twin brother ride in the Cup.

“It should be a special moment.”

Sense Of Pride is owned by Geoff Grimish who has been a big supporter of Berry’s career.

The former American mare will be having her third start in Australia after finishing strongly last start for fourth in the Listed Angst Stakes (1500m) with Tommy Berry aboard.

Glencadam Gold, meanwhile, will be out to bounce back after a disappointing Caulfield Cup performance.

Tommy Berry partnered the import to victory in the Group One Metropolitan (2400m) but was replaced by Jim Cassidy for the Caulfield Cup.

He got the recall for the Melbourne Cup 2012 and can’t wait to get his chance in the famous race after his spectator role last year when Dunaden defeated Red Cadeaux by the barest of margins.

“The crowd and atmosphere was unreal and I said to (girlfriend) Sharnee that I’ve got to get a ride in that race whenever I can,” Berry said.

“To be here a year later and think I’m going to be riding in the Melbourne Cup is an unreal feeling.”
