Horse Racing News: Lindsay Park pair target Doomben contests

Lindsay Park trainers Ben, Will & Jd Hayes have held high expectations for Poifect who continues her excellent current campaign in Brisbane.

Poifect, and stablemate Here To Shock, were flown to Brisbane on Tuesday with both gallopers set to run at Doomben on Saturday.

Poifect lines up in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) while Here To Shock is down to contest the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m).

J D Hayes said both gallopers had settled in well to their new environment and were enjoying the warmer climate, something the co-trainer was also looking forward to.

Poifect has won her past two starts, including the Listed Adelaide Guineas (1600m) at Morphettville on May 4, and is using The Roses as a trial for the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) on June 8.

“She came back from Adelaide and was based at Flemington and has been ticking over lovely,” Hayes said.

“I don’t think the 2000 metres will be a problem the way she ran out the mile in Adelaide.

“She is a Pierro, so she is a chance to get the distance. Her pet distance will probably be a mile, but if a three-year-old has a bit of class, they can get over a bit further.

“This will be a test to see whether she will stretch out a shade further in the Oaks, otherwise she can have a spell and winter up there.

“As the trainer I’m a bit jealous, as I’d like to winter up there too.”

Like Poifect, Here To Shock is on his first trip to Brisbane and the Lindsay Park team is using the BRC Sprint as a lead-up to the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 15.

Here To Shock won the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on April 6 before stepping up to 1600m when a close second to Dashing at Caulfield on May 4.

“He was very good at Caulfield, but he had to carry the grandstand which found him out late,” Hayes said.

“I think there was six-and-a-half kilos between them, and it told.

“It’s a nice race with a bit of weight relief, so we go up with a bit of confidence.”
