Isotope in brilliant comeback trial
Last start as a $2.15 fav in a $2million race, on Magic Millions day, the brilliant Queensland mare, ISOTOPE (Deep Field – Great Dansaar) clipped the heels of her rival Away Game as they turned for home and lost her rider.
That rider was Ryan Maloney and he said post race that she was bolting at the time and would have won.
Water under the bridge now, but what she did on Tuesday morning in Brisbane made you think Maloney may have been right.
She had her first trial back since the ‘incident’ and she was cantering at the end when beaten a head by Gr 1 horse Jonker.
Watch Jonker (inside yellow colours) and Isotope (outside, black colours) go toe to toe in their 1000m Doomben jumpout this morning and hear from trainer Tony Gollan and jockeys Jim Byrne and Ryan Maloney. #bneraces @tonygollan @Black_Soil_Bsk pic.twitter.com/6CRul46U9x

Trainer Tony Gollan was wrapped and immediately declared she would go to Sydney for some big race es.
“There was a bit going on at the barriers with another horse getting scratched, it wouldn’t load, so it was the longest Isotope has ever been in the gates,” Gollan said.
“So, to come out and run like that against a horse like Jonker who is flying, I was really happy that she handled that well and she trialled exceptionally well.
“It was good to see her have that confidence today to be able to begin and still put herself in a good spot and if she was asked for an effort she would have won the trial.
“I had her checked out three times after Magic Millions day when Ryan fell, but there was nothing wrong, she was fine.
“She will go to the Listed Darby Munro Stakes on Golden Slipper day (20th March) and then hopefully onto the (Gr 2) Arrowfield Sprint on the second day of The Championships.”
