The Danehill Stakes is a set weight and penalty event, suiting sprinters and horses fresh from the HDF McNeil Stakes. Some horses who enter this race are likely to go on and race the Group 1 Flight Stakes at Randwick or the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington. A number of quality horses have won this race in past years, including Armidale in 1996, Falvelon in 1999, Tan Tat De Lago in 2007, and Aichi in 2008.
The 2011 edition of the Danehill Stakes was won by Sepoy, with this star sprinter being the big favourite and certainly not disappointing. Sepoy won by a length from Hallowell Belle, with Unique Quality coming in at third position.
