She’s back! The undefeated Black Caviar returns to racing after having won the G1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot in July of last year. She looked good in a track gallop at Caulfield a few weeks back and will make it 23 from 23!
Black Caviar Lightning Stakes Form Guide
1. FIRST COMMAND – (8) S Arnold
Won first up at Caulfield three starts back and backed that up with a comprehensive ¾ length victory in the Listed Kensington Stakes at Flemington a month back. Sat on pace at his most recent start, in the Listed W. J. Adams and tried valiantly under 60.5kgs to finish third, beaten ½ length to Avoid Lighting. Unbeaten in two starts this track/trip.
Odds: $41.00

2. GOLDEN ARCHER – (1) D Stackhouse
First of three runners for Peter Moody that returns to racing after a finishing second to General Truce, this track and trip, on Oaks Day last year. Very honest competitor who ran second to Buffering in the G2 Schillaci Stakes over the Spring and has excellent stats for this track/trip and when first up.
Odds: $51.00
3. MOMENT OF CHANGE – (3)
Second of the Moody runners and winner of the G1 Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) last Spring. Winner of two from three when first up, like he is here today, with the latest fresh win being over Title in the Listed Show County carrying 54kg. This is his first try at WFA and 1000m but has above average ability and is second favourite.
Odds: $15.00
4. GO THE KNUCKLE – (5) N Hall
Smerdon sprinter who made ground late when third (beaten 1 ½ lengths) to First Command at Caulfield at his most recent start in early January. Didn’t have much luck in the run home then and but doubt the WFA scale of this event will be in his favour.
Odds: $126.00
5. SPIRIT CENT – (7) K McEvoy
5yo gelding from the Leek stables at Cranbourne who tackles this first up from a nineteen week spell. His won six from twenty-six starts, with the latest win coming six starts ago in July of last year when a 1 ¼ length winner of a BM 72 on the Geelong Synthetic circuit. Aiming way too high here.
Odds: $501.00
6. BLACK CAVIAR – (2) L Nolen
What can you say?! Unbeaten in twenty-two starts, twelve of them at Group 1 level. She has won seven at this track with an average winning margin of close to three lengths and, judging by her track gallop at Caulfield the other week, is back and ready to go despite not having raced since claiming the G1 Diamond Jubilee in Ascot back in July of last year.
Odds: $1.06
7. SATIN SHOES – (6) C Williams
A speedy mare who returns to racing after finishing down the track in the G1 Patinack Farm on Stakes Day at Flemington last Spring behind Mental. She’s been prepared for her return with a solid 2 ¾ lengths barrier trial win at Warwick Farm earlier this month. Has won three from five first up and the 1000m will suit.
Odds: $67.00
8. SHAMEXPRESS – (4) G Boss
Good effort in the G1 Coolmore Stud last Spring behind Nechita and Jolie Bay before being tipped out for a three month spell. She returned in good fashion, comfortably winning an Open 3yo Handicap at Moonee Valley under the steadier of 60kgs. Obviously has her fair share of ability but a race of this nature, at this stage of her career, might be a bit too soon.
Odds: $15.00
OVERVIEW
Obviously the champion mare but at $1.05, we’ll have to look at the exotics for some possible value but no further than the Moody stable. I think he’s three representatives here – Moment of Change and Golden Archer, can make it a clean sweep for Victoria’s premier trainer.
