If Anthony Cummings trains a Group 1 double at Flemington this Saturday, the trainer won’t be the only one celebrating. A punter at Sportingbet Australia will pocket $300,000 should Fiveandahalfstar win the Australian Cup and Fontelina salute in the Newmarket Handicap, after placing a $2000 double on the pair at odds of $150.
“The punter will probably be sweating bullets if Fiveandahalfstar wins the first leg and I actually think the Victoria Derby winner has a great chance,” Sportingbet CEO Michael Sullivan said.
“Fiveandahalfstar could lead and take some running down in the Australian Cup, but it is a big ask for Fontelina to win first up in a very competitive Newmarket,” Sullivan said.
Fontelina is now a $13 chance in the Newmarket behind favourite Moment Of Change at $2.85. Barakey firmed from $5.00 into $4.80 with Sportingbet Australia following his jump out at Flemington on Tuesday morning, while Luckygray eased from $6 out to $6.50. Better Than Ready, who was at $41 three weeks ago, is a joint third favourite at $6.50.
“Better Than Ready has been extremely well backed and plenty of four-figure punters got on at $21 and above,” Sullivan said.
In the Australian Cup, Fiveandahalfstar is a fifth favourite at $9 with Sportingbet Australia behind Green Moon at $4, Mr Moet at $4.40, Super Cool at $7 and Mawingo at $7.50.
