The feature race in Sydney on Saturday, is Listed Australia Day Cup. In the field of fourteen, six runners come out the Listed Gosford Cup earlier this month including place-getters and Gai Waterhouse pair – Travolta ($6.00) and Reuben Percival ($4.20). In a very open race, only one other runner – Angelus ($7.50) is under double figure odds.
1. TULLAMORE – N Berry (3)
Settled at the tail of the field when resuming from an eleven week spell and failed to make an impression, finishing last of nine behind Merlin Mustang under 60kgs, earlier this month over 1400m. Has jumped up quickly in distance several times in the past but with little success and think he’d be likely to need this one as well.
Odds: $17.00

2. REUBEN PERCIVAL – T Berry (14)
Has finished second at three of his past for starts – G2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup, the Listed Sandown Cup and at his most recent start, when off a nine week break, in the Gosford Cup a half length behind Moriarty. He gave the winner, who is in solid form, 3kgs last start and having that hit-out would only be of benefit to him. A very consistent galloper that deserves a win but, he’ll will find it hard from the outside draw.
Odds: $4.00
3. IRONSTEIN – B Avdulla
He was placed in the G2 Moonee Valley Cup (behind Vatuvie) and ran second to Puissance De Lune in the G3 Queen Elizabeth over the Spring. Returned form a nine week break and from a wide gate, got back further in the run than normal and only battled home, finishing second to last in the Gosford Cup. Better for that hit-out and from the inside draw, will be far more prominent in the run.
Odds: $13.00
4. FUIMICINO – J McDonald (4)
Won the Listed ATC Cup three starts back before chasing home the very much in-form Cantonese in the in the Christmas Cup at Rosehill in middle of December. Had a month off before finishing seventh of eleven in the Gosford Cup last start. Expected him to settle closer than he did then from a good draw and I’m tipping he’ll be far more prominent from a better draw today.
Odds: $15.00
5. CARRY ME BLUEY – G Schofield (9)
A Queensland galloper who, at his fourth run in this preparation, finished too strongly from the tail of the field to claim a BM 90 (2100m) by half a length over Mr. Light Blue at Eagle Farm last start. Travel outside of his home state for the first time in his thirty-one start career.
Odds: $13.00
6. MACEDONIAN – J Parr (6)
Jockey and Trainer, Peter Moody, have combined with good success over recent months but they may have their work cut out for them to get this 7yo by Zabeel over the line. His last win was November 2010 – sixteen starts ago. His most recent effort was a fifth behind Tuscan Fire at Flemington in an Open class race over 2500m.
Odds: $16.00
8. SHADOWS IN THE SUN – P Robl (5)
He made good ground late to finish just over two lengths behind All Legal in the Villiers before, at his most recent start, having little luck in the run home to finish fourth (beaten 2.4 lengths) behind Moriarty in the Listed Tatts Cup (2000m). Moriarty franked that form by winning the Gosford Cup at its next start despite having only won three from twenty-seven, his last start effort and the form around it, suggests he’ll be competitive here.
Odds: $13.00
8. WINNING GLORY – J Collett (7)
Settled fourth at his last start in the Gosford Cup and stuck on well over the 2400m, given that he hasn’t won behind 1900m. Likes to roll along in front but will have plenty of company here with likes of Rueben Percival, Ironstein, Fuimicino and Travolta all looking to settle handy. All six career wins have come on Slow tracks.
Odds: $19.00
9. YULALONA – R Quinn (2)
Needed the run when first up fifth of seven (beaten 3 lengths) at Canterbury behind the inform Cathay Lady two starts back before steadily making ground from last on the turn to finish 3 lengths behind Moriarty in the Gosford Cup. Ran second in this race last year behind Wazn after a similar effort and given that was only his second run back, further improvement wouldn’t surprise.
Odds: $9.00
10. ANGELUS – C Reith (12)
A comfortable winner here at Warwick Farm two starts back, defeating Court Connection by two lengths in a BM 79 (2100m) before dropping to the tail of the field in the Listed Tatt’s Cup and running home along the fence to finish third (beaten 1 ¾ lengths) behind Moriarty. Will be giving most a start here again from the widest draw and think she’s under the odds at her early quote of $7.50
Odds: $8.50
11. TRAVOLTA – K O’Hara (11)
Tough win over Marden two starts back at Rosehill in a BM 80 (1900m) before just being caught a little flat-footed when the pace increased last start in the Gosford Cup before coming again to finish third (beaten 1 ¾ ) behind Moriarty. Expect him to go forward again despite the wide gate and if allowed to roll along, may prove hard to run down.
Odds: $6.00
12. LUCRIPETOUS – C Brown (10)
He has started favourite four of his last eight starts but, to the punters frustration, has only saluted the once. Admittedly, he did have no luck two start back from a wide barrier before finishing second to last to Angelus and then got too far back in a race dominated by front-running Kukri (since won again) but still can’t have him to break his bad luck in a race of this standard.
Odds: $13.00
13. STEALAPIPE – J Ford (13)
Won a BM 65 last start at Gosford by a six length margin but aiming too high here.
Odds: $34.00
14. POWER BROKER – B Collett
Won a Kembla Grange BM 70 race on Wednesday just gone and unlikely to back that effort up by competing here.
Odds: $34.00
OVERVIEW
Going with Shadows in the Sun eachway here at the double figures odds of $13.00 Speed should be genuine and he’ll enjoy that and from five, Robl should be able to place him to advantage. Good in the Tatt’s Cup with no luck behind Moriarty (who subsequently won the Gosford Cup) and the in-form Darci Be Good. This trip fourth up looks ideal. He doesn’t win out of turn but like the price on offer about Ironstein too who can produce a better here, from a more favourably draw. Drops 2.5kgs on his first up run and is a genuine chance on his Spring Form.
