SA’s Cullen wins Queensland Open golf

South Australia’s Nick Cullen has stormed to a five-shot victory from veteran Peter O’Malley in the Queensland Open golf championship.

Coming off a course record seven-under-par 65, Cullen fired a 69 closing round at Brookwater Golf Club on Sunday to win at nine-under 279.

It was Cullen’s second professional win after a victory in the Indonesia Open on the OneAsia tour.

O’Malley was one shot back overnight but shot 73 and only held onto second place by one stroke from David McKenzie (68).

Young New Zealander Ryan Fox was in the hunt but shot a closing 76 to tie for fifth place on 288.
