Vaas appointed Sri Lanka bowling coach

Former Sri Lanka seam bowler Chaminda Vaas has been appointed head bowling coach to the national team for two years.

Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement on Wednesday the 39-year-old Vaas, who has the most number of Test and one-day international wickets for his country after Muttiah Muralitharan, will lead a three-member unit that will also comprise former seam bowling coach Champaka Ramanayake.

Vaas captured 355 wickets in 111 Tests and 400 wickets in 322 ODIs.

He worked impressively for New Zealand as a consultant during their two-Test tour of Sri Lanka last year. The series ended in a 1-1 draw.
