A blockbuster game gets blockbuster treatment with Brisbane hosting North Melbourne at the Gabba in the first AFLW curtain-riser prior to the mens match between the Lions and Swans.

Second placed Lions playing fifth-placed North should be considered a preview for what awaits us in the finals series.

With less than 24-hours notice, the Brisbane girls got on a plane to Melbourne, made the most of the very windy conditions at Whitten Oval and hung on to beat Collingwood by just three points.

Along with Freo and the Pies, Brisbane are 6-1 for the season, sitting second on percentage and can cement their spot in the top half of the ladder with a win over the Kangaroos.

North just got the job done over the Western Bulldogs last weekend, but it did put a dent in their percentage and facing the prospect of playing the Lions and Freo for the last two home and away games, need to win at least one to ensure their spot.

They have the team that is capable of it and can look scary on their day.

This is easily the best-betting match of the round with the Lions at $1.65 and North $2.20 head to head.

You would expect Brisbane to go in favourites, but can they back it up after such a big win last week and if there’s anything I’ve learnt in following AFLW over the past couple of seasons is to never write-off North Melbourne.

If they can get off to a good start like they did against the Dogs last week and hold their ground, the Roos might just be able to pip the Lions.
