AFL Round 1 Odds and Betting Preview – 2021

DESPITE having only a handful of games to his name, Gold Coast Suns young gun Matt Rowell has been the best backed by TAB punters to win the 2021 Brownlow Medal.

Opening at $26, Rowell is now into $17, with reigning champion Lachie Neale the $6 favourite ahead of Patrick Cripps ($7), Nat Fyfe ($8), Dustin Martin ($9) and Marcus Bontempelli ($9).

In other AFL betting news:

  • Punters are tipping Hawthorn to struggle in 2021, attracting 30% of all money for the Most Losses market. They are currently priced at $7.00
  • Despite opening as outsiders, the Western Bulldogs are now favourites to beat Collingwood on Friday night, with 70% of punter support going with the Dogs, priced at $1.78 with Collingwood $2.05
  • Richmond and Port Adelaide are clearly the two best backed teams to win in Round 1, attracting 95% of all money against Carlton and North Melbourne respectively
  • While Richmond ($4.50) are the best backed to win the flag, St Kilda ($13) loom as a smokey with only Richmond, Geelong and Port Adelaide attracting more punter support
  • Geelong have been the biggest movers for the Premiership following their off season additions in Jeremy Cameron, Shaun Higgins and Issac Smith, firming from $8 into $5.50
  • Richmond’s Tom Lynch ($6.00) and Geelong’s Tom Hawkins ($7.00) are expected to fight it out for the Coleman Medal, although plenty of attention will be on new Brisbane recruit Joe Daniher ($9.00).
