New Zealand juvenile Ruud Awakening has been heavily supported to win Saturday’s Golden Slipper at Rosehill with punters backing the filly from $21 into $11 with Sportingbet Australia.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Ruud Awakening has been the subject of a pre-barrier draw plunge.
“We took a mountain of bets for the Kiwi at $21, a $5,000 bet at $15 and then another $8000 each way at $12 all in the space of two days,” Sullivan said.

“Ruud Awakening has become a worse result for us than the well backed favourite Overreach,” Sullivan said.
The Gai Waterhouse trained Overreach has continued to shorten into $2 with Sportingbet and is a clear-cut favourite ahead of Villa Verde at $10.
“Even if Overreach draws a wide barrier she’ll start an overwhelming favourite due to just how dominant she’s been in her last two starts,” Sullivan said.
Overreach was $17 with Sportingbet when their Golden Slipper market first opened in mid-February.
Peter Moody’s late entrant Il Cavallo has been installed as a $16 chance with Sportingbet.
“Il Cavallo would jump from 900m to 1200m in just 10 days so if he gets a run I can’t see him threatening Overreach or some of the other fancied runners for that matter,” Sullivan said.
