Lightly raced sprinter Glenrowan Prince will run at Caulfield but trainer Kym Hann has yet to decide which of two races he lines up in.

Glenrowan Prince has been entered for Saturday’s Listed W J Adams Stakes (1000m) along with the benchmark 78 race over 1100m.

Bendigo trainer Hann says there are pros and cons for each race.

He pointed out Glenrown Prince will carry 58.5kg after apprentice Jack Martin’s three-kilogram claim in the benchmark race but will get in on the minimum of 54kg against superior opposition in the Adams Stakes.

“I’m 50-50 at the moment,” Hann said.

“The benchmark 78 looks a better option for him but with 54 kilos in the Listed race it’s attractive because he’s a little horse.”

Hann said either option was suitable and a good starting point for the gelding’s main aim this campaign, the $80,000 Mildura Cup (1400m) on March 12.

Hann said he would like to give Glenrowan Prince another start before the Mildura Cup and has a benchmark 96 race over 1200m picked out at Flemington on February 18.

And further down the track he would like to step the gelding up to 1600m saying it will open up options for the gelding.

A five-year-old, Glenrowan Prince has had his career restricted to 23 starts, because of injury, netting seven wins although he’s still a maiden in town.

Hann said Glenrowan Prince had undergone two separate operations to remove bone chips from his fetlock joints while also spending time on the sidelines with a hind leg suspensory injury.

“It only happens to the good ones,” he said.

Glenrowan Prince has raced through his grades and Hann would like to get some city success.

“That’s the aim,” Hann said.

“I’ve just tried to place him through his grades.

“I don’t like to rush horses to town until they’ve earned it but we’ve got his confidence up now.”
