Vics set WA 332 for victory

Competition leaders Victoria have posted a season-high 8 for 331 off their 50 overs in the domestic one-day cup match to set winless Western Australia a tough challenge at North Sydney Oval on Tuesday.

Cameron White led the way for Victoria with a fourth successive half-century, scoring a quickfire 76 off just 50 balls, including six sixes.

Several players made a contribution for the Vics with in-form captain Matthew Wade hitting 74 off 82 balls, while Marcus Stoinus also made a half-century (63 off 93 balls) as Western Australia struggled against some aggressive Victorian batting.

Seamer Jason Behrendorff was the best of WA’s bowlers claiming 3-66 off his 10 overs.

Andrew Tye finish with 3-80 off 10 overs.

Much interest in the run chase will focus on West Australia’s former Test opening batsmen Simon Katich who has made his return to Australian domestic cricket following an 18-month absence.

The 38-year-old quit NSW and Australian state cricket in early 2012, but scored heavily in English county cricket during Australia’s recent unsuccessful Ashes campaign.

The West Australians have also boosted by the return of another former Test batsman in Shaun Marsh who has lined up today for his first match of the season following a hamstring injury.
