Paul Gallen vs Justis Huni Preview

Justis Huni will head to Tokyo to compete at the Olympic Games should he get through Gallen as predicted but the former Rugby League star has been vocal in his ambition to stop Huni from fulfilling his dream.

We are scheduled for 10 rounds at Heavyweight for the Australian Title and our full Gallen vs Huni Preview can be read below.

Paul Gallen – A Short History

Of course we know Paul Gallen as the tough and determined ex front row forward for the Cronulla Sharks and NSW Origin team but the short and stocky bloke has become a fairly successful boxer since retirement.

How you judge his 11 wins to date is certainly subjective, especially when picking apart his opposition but there is no denying the bloke has skill with the gloves on.

A majority draw against former AFL legend Barry Hall has been followed up with impressive wins over former UFC Heavyweight Mark Hunt and former Heavyweight boxing contender Lucas Browne.

How serious those last two opponents took their encounters with Gallen is a different story.

His fundamentals of boxing are quite good and his defensive skills have laid the foundation for the majority of his 11 wins albeit in fights with limited rounds.

Unlike his last few opponents who are either past their prime or limited in their boxing credentials, he faces a serious up and coming Heavyweight challenger and he has his work cut out for him.

Justis Huni – A Short History

Make no mistake, Justis Huni is a legit Heavyweight boxer.

He won the Australian Heavyweight Title in his first pro fight in October last year and has gone on to defend that crown twice in the space of just seven months and will be using this fight as a tune up for the Olympic Games in Tokyo where he is a genuine challenger.

It will also serve as a nice money spinner for the young man and also importantly, build his profile with a sometimes fickle Australian boxing public.

If you need any evidence of the above statement, George Kambosis Jnr will fight for the WBO, IBF, WBC and The Ring Magazine Lightweight world title against Teofimo Lopez this Sunday and you’d be hard pressed finding many fans that are aware of this.

With a win will come a perfect 5-0 record for Huni and some really nice momentum and confidence going forward.

Our Prediction

It is safe to say that Paul Gallen has exceeded the expectations of many punters and pundits throughout his boxing career but this is far and away his toughest challenge to date.

His biggest offensive weapon remains his defence but he proved against Lucas Browne that there is some power in his hands.

Gallen has not been knocked out in his 12 fights thus far but the older you get, the more likely that your chin becomes compromised and I expect Huni to be finishing this fight fairly quickly.

Back Justis Huni To Win in Rounds 1-5 @ $3.00

Market Update: Punters only want a piece of Justis Huni it would seem with the soon to be Olympian at the short odds of $1.17.

Paul Gallen ($5.00) will no doubt attract some money late as he caught many by surprise winning his last fight but Huni will remain the clear favourite for this fight.
