Suban sent to AFL tribunal

Fremantle utility Nick Suban must front the AFL tribunal for grabbing Sam Mitchell’s face during the grand final.

Suban cannot take an early plea and it is up to Tuesday’s tribunal hearing to decide his penalty if he is found guilty.

The match review panel charged Suban with making unreasonable and unnecessary conduct to the Hawthorn onballer’s face.

Hawks defender Brian Lake and teammate Cyril Rioli have also had an unpleasant postscript to the premiership.

Lake can accept a three-week ban for striking Michael Walters and Rioli can take a one-week ban.

Rioli was charged with rough conduct for his chicken wing tackle on Dockers midfielder Michael Barlow.

The two Hawks players are facing tougher penalties because the AFL doubles the demerit points for grand final offences.

Lake could have taken a two-match ban normally, while Rioli would have escaped with a reprimand.

Suban’s case would still have gone straight to the tribunal.
