World champion Sebastian Vettel captured pole position Saturday in a Red Bull one-two for the Italian Grand Prix.
Vettel posted a fastest lap of 1 minute 23.755 seconds at Monza for his fourth pole of the season.
Teammate Mark Webber was 0.213 seconds behind, with Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg a surprise third ahead of the Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso and Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg.
Vettel’s pole broke a four-race series at the front of the grid by Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes, who missed the cut in the second qualifying second and will start from 12th.
Other big casualties in the second qualifying session were Lotus duo Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
Vettel leads Alonso in the standings by 46 points.
