Joliestar gains a slot in 2025 The Everest field

Top-class mare Joliestar will waste no time justifying her Everest spot when she resumes in the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill this weekend.

The Newmarket Handicap heroine was this week confirmed as the representative for the Chris Waller Racing and Partners slot in the $20 million Everest (1200m). She filled an unlucky seventh for the same group in last year’s edition but has since added another Group 1 to her résumé.

Her confirmation came just days after stablemate Lady Shenandoah pressed her own Everest case with a brave second in the Concorde Stakes (1000m). However, Waller said Joliestar’s proven record made her the obvious choice. “She’s just gone from strength to strength. What she did in the Newmarket was exceptional and to back it up in Brisbane shows the quality she possesses. She’s matured beautifully and we couldn’t be more excited to have her back for The Everest,” Waller said.

Joliestar has not raced since capturing the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm in June but boasts a sparkling first-up record, including victory in the Show County Quality (1200m) last spring. She has won three of five fresh runs and is a $2.25 favourite for the Sheraco Stakes while holding a $13 quote for The Everest.

Her confirmation adds further star power to The Everest field, which already includes Hong Kong’s Ka Ying Rising, TJ Smith Stakes winner Briasa, unbeaten Private Harry and powerhouse finisher Jimmysstar.

The day’s carnival build-up also includes news from the $2 million Kosciuszko (1200m), with slot holders finalised on Wednesday. Two-time winner Front Page and stakes mare Clear Thinking were snapped up early, while Compelling Truth, Bandi’s Boy and Highway winner So Magnificent were also secured. Both races headline the Randwick program on October 18.
