Tree Of Jesse win provides tonic for Bart

Less than a week after he was hospitalised with a chest infection, maestro trainer Bart Cummings has returned home and is training winners.

Tree Of Jesse provided the octogenarian with the perfect tonic when she thundered down the outside to score a thrilling last-stride win in the Hyland Race Colours Plate at Canterbury on Wednesday.

While Cummings rarely makes it trackside these days, grandson and training partner James confirmed the legendary horseman was out of hospital and in “good spirits”.

“He’s fantastic. I spoke to him yesterday and he told me to have a bet on her,” James Cummings said.

“It just might take him a bit longer to count all his money.”

In a deceptive finish, Tree Of Jesse scored by a half head over Godolphin filly Wedding.

But with the pair wide part of the racetrack, it took the judge took several minutes to split them.

James Cummings said Tree Of Jesse was a lightly framed filly and he would monitor how she came through the Canterbury win before deciding whether to continue her campaign.

He also confirmed Golden Rose winner Hallowed Crown was back in pre-training and due to return to the stable before Christmas.
