Melbourne Victory coach Jim Magilton has described Harry Kewell’s admission of diving as “very foolish” and promised to punish Danny Allsopp as he attempts to rein in the A-League club’s disciplinary issues.

Kewell admitted on Tuesday he may have dived to win a penalty – albeit not deliberately – during his side’s woeful 4-1 hammering by Perth Glory.

Magilton said Kewell, roundly condemned for diving at points during the game, may now have seeded doubt in the minds of referees and could cost himself a legitimate penalty as a result.

“Very foolish, because if an opportunity comes up tomorrow night and he goes over in the box, the referee may just think `hang on’,” Magilton said on Wednesday.

“Very naive from an experienced player.”

As questions continue about the Victory’s disciplinary problems after Allsopp became the sixth player sent off this season, Magilton made it clear poor discipline would not be tolerated on his watch.

He said Allsopp could expect an internal fine or other sanction, and any other Victory players needlessly sent off could expect to feel his wrath.

“He will be punished accordingly. The less said about that the better,” Magilton said of Allsopp’s rash tackle and send-off.

“It was a poor tackle, he understands that. He understands he let his team-mates down as well.”

“If there is (a) discipline issue, it will be dealt with internally, dealt with within the four walls of the dressing-room.”

Both the Victory and fellow under-performers Sydney FC face a critical juncture of their season when they clash on Thursday at AAMI Park.

Magilton, still seething at how uncompetitive his side was in just his second match in charge, looks certain to bring new loan signing Mark Milligan straight into the starting line-up.

And clearly earmarking defence as a major problem for the Victory, Spaniard Ubay Luzardo has arrived on trial at the club.

Luzardo, 28, is a centre-back who last played in Hong Kong for Kitchee SC.

He played against English Premier League side Chelsea in a pre-season exhibition match last year – Magilton keen to see if he measures up to A-League standard.

Milligan is expected to be one of several changes, with midfielder Carlos Hernandez also fit again after missing the Perth match.
