Say No More takes out Thorndon Mile

Say No More has produced a big finish to take out the Thorndon Mile and give trainer Paul Duncan his third Group One win at Trentham.

The four-year-old mare, who started second favourite in Saturday’s 1600m feature, was travelling well before making a move at the 300-metre mark.

Ridden by Awapuni apprentice Rosie Myers, Say No More showed impressive acceleration in pulling out to the front and going on to win by 1-3/4 lengths.

Postmans Daughter was second, a neck ahead of Jetset Lad in third place.

“It’s sensational,” Myers said of Say No More’s performance.

“We got a nice spot and it was just a matter of me giving her a bit of ground and she flew home.”

It is the second time Duncan and Myers have combined for Group One success at Trentham after Midnight Oil’s win in the New Zealand Oaks last year.

Duncan, who also trained Oarsman to victory in the Wellington Cup in 2003 when Gary Grylls was on board, was full of praise for Myers.

“Rosie has ridden her very well,” he said.

“She’s given her every chance, just like she has on all of mine in recent times.”

Say No More has now taken her record to five wins and three seconds in nine starts.

Race favourite Shez Sinsational finished in the middle of the field, although the Zabeel Classic winner’s main aims for the rest of the season are over longer distances.
