Moonee Valley horse racing tips – 28/12/2013

Moonee Valley will host a rare Summer day program this Saturday. The interesting runners here are the two Phillip Stokes runners, Eclair Choice in the first and Lucky Symbol. Stokes has had an unbelievable past few months in Adelaide and has brought Dom Tourneur over for the two rides.

Race One: Quest Moonee Valley Plate 1000m Form Guide

Back Me: Chivalry on top for me. Beautifully bred son by Street Cry who was backed as if unbeatable down the straight at Flemington, but found one better in I Am The General, who is well in the market for the Magic Millions, as is this colt provided he wins. Interesting to note that Rodd said after the race that the horse will be better suited as a three year old, so not sure how to take that, but on exposed form, he is the one to beat.
Big Danger: Eclair Bounce comes over from Adelaide for Phillip Stokes off the back of an impressive trial win at Morphettville. It is interesting to see Stokes elect to debut in Melbourne rather than the inferior level of Adelaide. I’m taking that as a guide that he has an opinion of this horse.
Roughie: We liked I Am Snippety as a place chance on debut and the filly delivered, running a gallant second to Magic Millions favourite Echo Gal. She showed brilliant early pace from a wide barrier that day, so a better draw should ensure she is on the bunny and giving a great sight.

Race Two: Top Cut Handicap (78) 1200m Form Guide

Back Me: Big, big fan of Lucky Symbol for Stokes and Tourneur. Put them away quite comfortably at his first two outings, then was forced to sit three wide with no cover on a hot speed, yet pounced on the lead close to home and won drawing away from his rivals. Definitely think he can win a stakes race and despite being away from Adelaide for the first time here, I’m really keen on his chances.
Big Danger: Seven Falls was the subject of a betting plunge on debut at Mornington and after 50m, he was home. He led, kicked on the turn and just kept going to win by seven lengths in smart time considering it was a very wet track and he was on debut. Bossy takes the ride now, drawn well, and strikes a very winnable city race.
Roughie: Gallant Express ran a couple of solid races at Caulfield during the Winter behind Lord Of The Sky and Monkstone respectively, so he has the form on the board, but barrier ten and first up are the worries. Look for him to get back and work to the line late.

Race Three: Emsley Lodge Handicap (78) 1600m Form Guide

Back Me: This is almost the highlight event on the program given all of these runners have a legitimate winning claim. The best horse in the race is Kiss Me Ketut so she goes on top. She has been a revelation at her past three, winning each time, with the last two being at the Valley and Flemington respectively. She is a proven weight carrier, and although drawn wide, she looms as the one to beat.
Big Danger: Magnesia was very stiff when narrowly beaten by Jessy Belle over the 1500m here a couple of weeks back. She just got held up on the back of the other filly and never really got clear until it was too late. She’ll love the rise to 1600m and with a clear run, she is a massive threat.
Roughie: Theodora finally brokethrough for a well deserved maiden win on Werribee Cup Day, although what she beat was questionable and there was dynamite on pace bias. Still, her prior form was excellent and now that she has got the win under the belt, she may go right on with it.

Race Four: Melbourne Signage Concepts Handicap (70) 2040m Form Guide

Back Me: Vintage Lad was ridden upside down last start at Kilmore, but that was only due to the fact he was the clear best horse in the race and wanted to stay out of trouble. He bolted in, so he proved he has versatility, but is better when he has something to chase. The wide draw makes it interesting, but I still like him here.
Big Danger: Toughest test to date for Red Fella, but gee he has been impressive in two runs this time. Should have won first up at Mount Gambier, then made amends at Terang, aided by a crack ride from Nikita Beriman. Bossy takes over now, and we all know how good he is in staying races, so don’t be concerned by barrier 16.
Roughie: Genghis had the charmed run behind the leader last week, but just couldn’t quite peg him back with the big weight. Drops 2kg for this, drawn well again and rises to a suitable distance.

Race Five: Chandler Macleoud Handicap (70) 2500m Form Guide

Back Me: Keen here on Baluch to get the job done here. She has been bursting to win a race at her past couple of outings, but has bumped into Reckless Assassin at her past two outings. In the second of those outings, she was most unlucky as she was held up before the turn, which gave the the other mare the winning break. Definitely looking for the 2500m and is well weighted after the claim.
Big Danger: He’snotthemessiah bolted in three back, then was very stiff on Ballarat Cup Day before not having much here a couple of weeks back behind Scelto, where he was hard held the last 100m. He has plenty of upside left and Damien Lane is riding in sparkling form at the moment.
Roughie: The Principal might have only won a pretty ordinary staying race at Bairnsdale, but the way he did it was pretty impressive. He ran behind some good horses during the Autumn, but was probably outclassed a bit. He strikes a very thin staying race here, and could easily figure in the finish at odds.

Race Six: Jeep Don’t Hold Back Handicap 1000m Form Guide

Back Me: Great each way bet for mine here in the shape Lamingtons at around the $10 mark. Her opening two runs this time in, both here, have been outstanding, including last time out in a heat of the 55 second challenge where she was very game when a narrow second to Observer. 3kg under the minimum, rock hard fit, drawn well, in form rider…$10 will do me.
Big Danger: Prettyhappyaboutit didn’t have the best of luck here last time out when wide with no cover, yet she worked to the line nicely when second to Sassy Tycoon, who she meets 1.5kg better off the weights.
Roughie: You’ll find it hard to find a more consistent galloper than Legcut, who was a superb first up winner here, then was caught in no mans land, hit the lead late to only be swamped on the line and finished fourth, beaten just over a half length. Drawn wide again, but tumbles in weight.

Race Seven: City Jeep Handicap Handicap (78) 1200m Form Guide

Back Me: Waddle your finger on the form guide and good luck. In saying that, I am quite surprised to see that there is $11 offered for the ultra consistent King Buddy, who was a real eye catcher at Caulfield off the back of a month freshen up when he savaged the line for fourth behind Flamberge. That form line reads very well for a race like this, along with the fact that a senior rider, and a rider who knows the horse so well in Brad Rawiller, takes the ride.
Big Danger: Prince Stratum has put together two really impressive wins from as many starts this time in, at the Valley and Caulfield respectively. Really liked the way he let down at Caulfield considering he carried 59kg on a wet track. He has turned the corner and looks a massive threat.
Roughie: Kievann is a big dangly son of Niello who is still learning what the game is about as seen by his win last time out at Kyneton where he bolted to the lead on the corner and looked as if he was going to win by a space, but didn’t want to let down. He’ll be better next prep, but he can still measure up here.

Race Eight: Sportingbet Best Tote Plus Handicap (78) 1600m Form Guide

Back Me: $21 for Gig…I think I have missed something here, because she hasn’t done much wrong this time in, in particular last Saturday at Flemington where she worked home well when third to an in form mare in Sistine Demon. Rises a bit in weight, but tumbles in depth, and should get a cart into the race from the barrier. Can’t believe that price.
Big Danger: Prince Of Penzance didn’t have much luck first up at Flemington when seventh to Sistine Demon, who franked the form with a win again last weekend. This bloke has loads of talent, and although he will be better suited on a bigger track over further, the stable are in a real purple patch.
Roughie: Tycoon Rob is the sneaky trifecta/first four hope in this. He has run some good races at his past couple with big weights. He won’t know himself with 54.5kg, drawn well to sit on the pace, and at the Valley, that is a huge advantage.
