Gavrilova set for Fed Cup debut

Fed Cup captain Alicia Molik has immediately earmarked Daria Gavrilova as Australia’s number two singles player for next month’s World Group play-off against the United States.

Russian-born Gavrilova has just been granted eligibility by the International Tennis Federation to play for Australia and Molik says she’ll waste no time selecting her for her debut at Brisbane’s Pat Rafter Arena.

“It’s been a long process, somewhat drawn out, but patience has really paid off,” said Molik while inspecting the arena’s newly-laid clay court.

“She sits now at No.2 behind Sam Stosur so to have Dasha at our disposal is really exciting.”
