Aussie Saville into Open boys’ quarters

Australia’s world No.1 junior Luke Saville has cruised into the Australian Open boys’ singles quarter-finals.

Saville, the top seed, who turns 18 next week, needed just 52 minutes to thrash Egyptian 16th seed Karim Hossam 6-2 6-2 in Wednesday’s third round.

Saville, who is the reigning junior Wimbledon champion, will meet English 16-year-old seventh seed Kyle Edmund in his quarter-final.

He is aiming to become Australia’s third champion in six years at Melbourne Park, with Brydan Klein (2007) and Bernard Tomic (2008) recent winners.

Saville is Australia’s last remaining hope, after sixth seed Andrew Harris fell to American qualifier Mackenzie McDonald 6-2 6-3 in his third round match on Wednesday.

There are no Australians left in the girls’ singles, after Russian top seed Irina Khromacheva eliminated Australian wildcard recipient Storm Sanders 6-4 6-1.

But Australian pair Harris and Nick Kyrgios, the fourth seeds, are through to the semi-finals of the boys’ doubles.

They needed to win a deciding match tiebreaker to beat seventh-seeded pair Pedja Krstin, of Serbia and Filip Peliwo, of Canada 6-4 6-7 (6-8) 10-3 in their quarter-final.
