Newcastle bounced back from a run of six defeats in seven games to beat Queens Park Rangers 1-0 in the Premier League on Saturday and end Harry Redknapp’s undefeated record as manager of the west London side.

Newcastle held a considerable edge in time of possession and its domination finally paid off in the 81st minute when Shola Ameobi turned in a Vurnon Anita ball from close range.

Redknapp took over the west London club in November after Mark Hughes was sacked and had guided the team to an unbeaten record of one win and three draws from his first four games in charge.

While Newcastle moved up to 14th with 20 points, QPR remains in 19th place in the standings with 10 points – and Redknapp is not happy with the squad he inherited.

“There are a lot of players at this club who earn far too much money for what they are; far, far, far too much money for their ability and what they give to the club,” Redknapp said.

“I don’t really want to see the owners have their pants taken down like they have in the past. There’s a lot of agents made money out of them.

“I fined a player last week and he was earning more than any player earned at Tottenham.”

The former Tottenham manager said defender Jose Bosingwa was fined STG130,000 ($A203,150) – two weeks’ wages – for refusing to sit on the bench for QPR’s 2-1 victory over Fulham last weekend.

“He didn’t want to be on the bench and didn’t want to be a substitute, so he went home,” Redknapp said.
