Can one of the Premierships Greats Shine Once Again?

The Reds are considered one of the greatest clubs in the English Premier League, but in recent years we have seen what some could consider poor performances from a leading side. The talent is not the question, with the likes of Gerrard, Suarez, formerly Torres and Alonso currently in the club, or have passed through the gates at Anfield. The pressure is on for the relatively new boss Rodgers, eyes are on him to bring this former club back to the glory days of old. Rumors are flying round about one of the top players (Suarez) that he might leave this summer, can the Reds still make it in a top position without their star player. If you were a betting man placing a free bet online, who would you place your money on?

There is no denying the Uruguayans obvious talent; the same can be said of the on pitch antics with Suarez picking up a long match ban towards the end of last season. This immediately would suggest that the Reds can indeed function without him, this is something that Rodgers has had to factor in into this transfer window and failsafe options would have been made.

The likes of Sturridge who joined the club last season as well as Coutinho have once again bought some pace as well as impressive talent to the front of the clubs lineup, putting them in a position to be contending for European Football. Popular site Whoscored rated him in second behind Bale with his 23 goals in 22 games.

There is a new philosophy at Anfield with the club almost finding its feet again in the last season, setting itself up for success this time round, but there is of course the risk of being ‘the same old club’. It is questionable with this being the case; last season was one of the best in the academy for a decade with 7 youngsters breaking through to see first team football. It could almost be argued that Liverpool is rebuilding itself from the ground up.

It could almost be a blessing in disguise not being in Europe. We have to bear in mind that next year is the World Cup, meaning players not only are playing a full season of EPL but potentially a full summer of internationals, coupled with the possibility of domestic and European cups, players are going to go into the next season very tired. Liverpool on the other hand, can pace themselves, focus on the Domestic trophies and set themselves up for the seasons post Brazil 2014.

There is no doubt that Rodgers has his work cut out with the return of the Premiership. He needs to keep giving the youth opportunity as well as keep the flair and talent of the newer players. Should he be worried?

Suarez might leave, no – everyone can be replaced. Liverpool should be aiming for a top 4 finish possibly eyeing up the FA cup they need to keep the momentum as well as keep the focus on what it is they want. It could be this season where we see the Reds return to their former might.
