The Hurricanes have shuffled their outside backs in making three changes for the Super Rugby match against the Chiefs in Hamilton on Friday.
In the competition’s first game after a three-week break for the June international window, Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett has stuck largely with the starting XV which lost their last game 30-23 to the Brumbies in Canberra on May 31.
A shoulder injury to fullback Andre Taylor sees him replaced by James Marshall while Alapati Leiua makes way on the right wing for Matt Proctor. Leiua is on the reserves bench, having returned this week from South Africa, where he played three Tests for Samoa in a four-nation tournament.
The other change is up front, where openside flanker Karl Lowe replaces Jack Lam, who was also in the Samoa squad.
Flanker Faifile Levave is battling a foot injury and has been bracketed with Blade Thomson on the bench. Thomson will make his Super Rugby debut if required.
All of the Hurricanes’ seven All Blacks who saw action in the Test series against France are included in the starting line-up.
A loss for the ninth-placed Hurricanes against the second-placed Chiefs will almost certainly end their slim play-off hopes.
Hurricanes: James Marshall, Matt Proctor, Conrad Smith, Reynold Lee-Lo, Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara, Victor Vito, Karl Lowe, Brad Shields, James Broadhurst, Jeremy Thrush, Ben May, Dane Coles, Ben Franks. Reserves: Ash Dixon, Reggie Goodes, Mark Reddish, Faifile Levave/Blade Thomson, Chris Smylie, Tusi Pisi, Alapati Leiua
