Once again the Golfing Gods gave us the good weather which made for some wonderful golf. And it was the 1992 Champion Fred Couples who turned back the clock and gave the young guns a golfing lesson. Couples posted a -5 round of 67 to give him a share of the lead with fellow American Jason Dufner who carded a 2 under 70. Couples posted the lowest round for the day. Hitting 75% of fairways for the past two days has certainly helped his cause.
One shot back in a tie for 3rd are a few of the big names in Oosthuizen, Westwood, Garcia, McIlroy and Bubba Watson.
Garcia shot a 68 along with Mickelson and Freddie Jacobson to post the second best round of the day.
At -3 in a share of Eighth is Paul Lawrie, Matt Kuchar and Miguel Angel Jimenez.

Mickelsons 68 put him in a share for eleventh with seven over players. Singh, Hanson, Stenson, Baddeley, Howell III and Crane. Phil’s tee to green stats were shocking however it was his awesome scrambling that saw him shoot such a good score. If he can get his long irons back in shape he will be a major force over the weekend.
Rory McIlroy shot an impressive 69 to put him at -4 and within striking distance. Another big name was not so lucky. Tiger Woods covered more ground than the first explorers. His driving was all over the shop, his irons were just as bad and his putting was some of the worst he had ever dished up. He shot a 3 over 75 which sees him in a share for 40th. The only high fivers that were seen during his round were from the fans on the back nine when he hit his ball into the crowd and hit one of the spectators. The fans friends then celebrated with one another as they now had a story to tell their grand kids. While Tiger is 8 shots from the lead it is not the score he has to overcome, it’s the quality of players who stand infront of him. He will have his work cut out this weekend.
Of the six Aussies in the field three of them made the cut. Baddeley leads the charge at -2, followed by Scott on +1 and Ogilvy on +2. Jason Day withdrew from the Tournament after succumbing to his earlier injury.
Senden finished at +6 and McPherson on +9. Let’s hope the three remaining Aussies can put up a fight and fly the flag for us.
63 Players made the Cut which is the highest number since 1992, which was won by current second round leader Fred Couples.
A few notable names to miss the cut include Mark Wilson, Paul Casey and Darren Clarke. Three amateurs made the cut this year with Matsuyama, Cantlay and Kraft fighting it out for top amateur honors.
The weather forecast looks like we can expect more of the same tomorrow.
The fans are in for a treat!
