Pearson ready to hurdle in Perth

World champion Sally Pearson will attempt to put a rare tumble behind her when she makes her 100m hurdle return in the Perth Track Classic on Saturday night.

Pearson, a silver medallist at the Beijing Olympics and reigning world champion, hasn’t competed in her pet event since crashing out in last September’s Diamond League final in Brussels.

The 25-year-old was leading the race at the time and would have pocketed a cool $US40,000 ($A37,000) bonus had she completed the win.

But Pearson said the stumble was a distant memory and she was looking forward to taking on US rival Nia Ali in Perth.

“It’s just one of those things,” Pearson said of the crash.

“I chose an event where you have to go over 10 barriers. It just happens sometimes.

“Unfortunately, it happened in my last race where I could have picked up a lot of prize money, but you don’t think of it like that.

“You just think of it as one of those days.”

Pearson, who took out last year’s world championships with a career best time of 12.28 seconds, said she was in good shape and aiming to clock a time of around 12.6 seconds in Perth.

The Queenslander will be the race favourite when she competes at this year’s Olympics, and remains confident her best years lay ahead of her.

“I’m only 25. I’m already running 12.28s at my best. I hope I can go faster,” Pearson said.

“But to me, it’s not always about times – it’s more about medals.”

Pearson said America’s Ali would provide her with a stiff challenge on Saturday night.

“I’m so used to running in Australia in my comfort zone,” Pearson said.

“It’s nice to bring someone different over and shake things up a bit and get your nerves rattled a bit.”

Pearson will be the headline event in Perth following the pull-outs of Olympic champion pole vaulter Steve Hooker and hurdler Jana Pittman.
