Preview:
NFL Week 13 and we will see the Jacksonville Jaguars take to the road to battle the Cleveland Browns. The game has a start time of 1:00 pm (Eastern) and be will televised on CBS. Current odds have Cleveland listed as 7 point favorites, while the total sits at 40.
Analysis: Jacksonville is slowly watching its chances at securing the top pick in the next NFL draft fade away after they beat Houston last week 13-6, to grab their 2nd win in a row. The victory leaves Jacksonville among three teams in the NFL with 2-9 records – Houston and Atlanta being the other two. A resurgent defense has keyed Jacksonville’s improvement, surrendering 218 yards in last week’s 13-6 victory over the Texans, its fewest allowed in two years. A resurgent defense has keyed Jacksonville’s improvement, surrendering 218 yards in last week’s 13-6 victory over the Texans, its fewest allowed in two years. The run defense has been especially stingy, yielding an average of 58.0 yards in the last three contests after giving up 161.8 per game in the first eight. On offense the Jags are the worst in the league, but Jones-Drew is starting to pay better after he put up 144 yards vs Houston last week and he now has a rushing TD in his last 3 games.
The Browns (4-7) were very much alive in the AFC playoff picture until suffering back-to-back divisional losses by a combined 37 points. They have now slid to last place in the AFC North, which is where they have been in eight of the last 10 years. The Browns will have Brandon Weeden back under center as they try to halt a two-game slide. Weeden has just been awful for them this year, but the Browns have no choice with Hoyer out for the year and Campbell being evaluated for a concussion. Weeden is 0-4 as a starter on the season and he was 13-for-30 for 209 yards in relief of Campbell last week. Josh Gordon is likely to draw a lot of attention after tying a team-record with 14 catches for a franchise-best 237 yards against Pittsburgh. He’s just 301 yards shy of Braylon Edwards’ single-season record of 1,289 set in 2007. On defense, the Browns rank sixth against the run (97.7 ypg) and is one of three clubs yet to allow a 100-yard rusher.
Pick: Only one way to look here and that is the Under. The Cleveland offense has not been that good all year, but it is even worse with Weeden in there. The Jags offense has been horrendous all year and won’t get much vs an underrated Cleveland defense. Look for this one to be played in the low 30’s.
