Far from being fazed about a quick turnaround, Parramatta prop Tim Mannah says his side is buzzing and can’t wait to get back on the field following their stunning start to the NRL season.
Last year’s wooden spooners sat on top of the ladder for 48 hours after their 40-10 mauling of the Warriors on Saturday night.
It was a slick performance in front of expectant home fans hoping for significant improvement under new coach Ricky Stuart and Mannah is pleased that they’ve got just four full days to prepare for Canterbury.
“Personally I enjoy a quick turnaround – I think the training week is a lot lighter,” said Mannah on Tuesday.
“Obviously the coaches would probably rather a bit more time to prepare.
“But … when you’re playing with the excitement we did on the weekend, everyone’s buzzing and just wants to get back onto the field.”
Mannah believes the Bulldogs will be determined to bounce back in front of their fans at ANZ Stadium after going down to North Queensland last Saturday in a “home” game they took to Gosford.
But the 25-year-old doesn’t think the absence of superstar fullback Ben Barba will hinder last season’s grand finalists.
“I think missing one player isn’t going to derail their season too much,” he said.
“They’ve proved it over and over again how well they play and I think they’ll still be a very, very strong team.”
Mannah made a strong statement against the Warriors as he aims to recapture the form that earned him NSW selection for all three State of Origin games in 2011.
Despite only playing 40 minutes, the hard-running front-rower racked up a game-high 140 metres and was a constant handful for the big Warriors pack.
Mannah credited the club’s emphatic round-one effort to Stuart, who has added steel to a club that underperformed over the past few years.
“One of the biggest things Ricky did during the summer was just really bring people together,” he said.
“The boys are very tight at the moment and if you can do that I think you go a long way to being a successful team.”
