Manly prop Brent Kite says things are finally starting to come together at the Sea Eagles under coach Geoff Toovey and the club is primed for a tilt at back-to-back NRL premierships.

Manly have had arguably the most disjointed season of any club due to a pre-season change of coach following Des Hasler’s defection to Canterbury and a heavy injury toll.

But Kite, a two-time title winner with Manly in 2008 and 2011, says moving into the competition’s top four after tough successive wins over the Warriors and North Queensland has the players believing they are beginning to play their best football at the most important time of the year.

“The years we have done well we have managed to time our run well,” the 2008 Clive Churchill medal winner said.

“We would have liked to have been higher up on the ladder sooner on but as it has turned out through injury and the whole change of coach and a new regime, it has just taken a little longer.

“But if we can get it right for this time of year, we will be happy.”

Kite says the belief within the club was approaching that which steered them to two premierships in four years under Hasler.

“If we can string another few wins together in these last rounds, we might start talking about that feeling and how we are placed,” Kite said.

“But there is still a bit of work to do and maybe just a bit early to say we have that premiership feeling just yet.”

Manly meet second placed South Sydney this weekend in a clash likely to have a significant bearing on the final make-up of the top eight.

“We are hoping off the back of our last couple of wins we might be in a good place to go on with it and chalk another one up,” Kite said.
