South Sydney enforcer Sam Burgess says the Rabbitohs pack is ready for a mammoth forward battle against a hungry Cronulla outfit on Saturday night.
The Sharks are desperate for a win to cement their place in the NRL finals, while Souths are eager to bounce straight back from last week’s disappointing loss to Manly – their first setback in seven matches.
With fearless lock Paul Gallen leading the way for Cronulla, the Sharks have made it clear they must beat the Rabbitohs up the middle if they’re to stand any chance against Souths’ brilliant attack, which is boosted by the return of star fullback Greg Inglis from suspension.
Burgess said the Rabbitohs were still smarting after being dominated by a physical Manly side last week, and won’t back down against Cronulla at Toyota Park.
“It’s going to be a great test for us again. We played Manly last week, who brought it to us and I’m sure the Sharks are going to do that this week,” Burgess said.
“The best thing we can do is prepare ourselves for that and worry about our own performances.
“The Sharks are really after the two points and we’re looking to improve.”
Inglis returns after three weeks on the sidelines and Burgess doesn’t believe the dynamic No.1 would have lost any form during his enforced layoff.
The Queensland and Australian Test star bagged three tries against the Sharks back in round 10 and Burgess is hoping Inglis can again have Cronulla ducking for cover.
“Greg adds a lot to any side regardless of who he’s playing for, so we’re looking forward to getting him back,” he said.
“He’ll be refreshed and he’s looking forward to doing his job for the team.”
