St Helens scored 24 points in each half to complete their home Super League campaign in style with a 48-6 thrashing of relegation-threatened Huddersfield Giants at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
In-form prop Luke Thompson got a brace while former Penrith and North Queensland fullback Lachlan Coote had a perfect night with the boot, kicking eight goals from as many attempts.
The victory ensured the Shield winners wrapped up the regular season without losing a game on home soil, an ominous record which will give them huge confidence ahead of the play-offs.
The last time they achieved such a feat was in 2002 when they went on to win the grand final.
Elsewhere, Wigan ran in eight tries as they moved a step closer to securing second place with a convincing 46-12 win over Catalans Dragons.
Warriors coach Adrian Lam heaped praise on former Parramatta winger Bevan French after watching them record their sixth successive victory.
Lam was quick to hail the Australian who scored his first hat-trick for the club in a stunning individual performance.
“He was unbelievable. He’s one of those players that if you underestimate him he’ll be too strong for you. He scored two tries out of nothing and he’s one of those guys that looks like he’s walking on water,” said Lam.
“In Super League 2020, he’s going to be a sensation for us wherever he plays. He’s got that speed to burn and he’s quite strong. When he finds his feet at this club and realises it’s his team too then he’s going to move to another level.”
Salford confirmed their place in the playoffs with a 20-12 victory over Leeds.
The Red Devils claimed their seventh win in a row with a hard-fought victory at Headingley which keeps them in fourth place while the Rhinos remain eighth.
London Broncos clinched a dramatic 20-16 win at Hull KR to keep their survival hopes alive.
A 78th-minute try from captain Jay Pitts secured the win which means the Broncos will stay up if they triumph at Wakefield in their final game of the season next week.
Wakefield go in to that clash after losing 23-16 at third-placed Warrington Wolves.
Trinity, London, Huddersfield or Hull KR could all still drop through the trapdoor into the Championship next weekend with all four clubs locked on 20 points at the bottom.
