NRL Round 5 Match Odds, Big Bets and Betting Guide – 2021

Souths continue to be one of the most popular teams with TAB punters this season, with a bet of $60,000 placed on them to beat the Broncos tonight at $1.05.

South Sydney’s left edge attack has been as rewarding for punters as it has for the Rabbitohs and they are backing it to continue causing havoc against Brisbane, even without the suspended Cody Walker.

The trio of Walker, Latrell Mitchell and Alex Johnston have scored 12 of South Sydney’s 18 tries between them this season, making them the most dangerous left side combination in the competition. Walker is equal fourth on the try scorers list with five, while winger Johnston is just one behind on four and Mitchell has crossed three times from fullback.

With Benji Marshall pulling the strings tonight as a ready-made replacement for Walker, Mitchell and Johnston are holding more than half the money in the try scoring markets and anchoring the majority of NRL multis. Marshall himself is paying $3.00 to score a try against a Brisbane side at odds of $9.00 to cause an upset.

In other NRL market news from TAB:

  • Punters believe Penrith can stretch their unbeaten run another six weeks. TAB’s Next Loss market has had little interest in a Panthers defeat coming until their round 11 clash with Souths where they’re paying $8.00 to be toppled by the Rabbitohs in Dubbo. They face the likes of Canberra, Gold Coast and Cronulla during that period.
  • After crossing for four tries in 11 minutes during the first half against Brisbane last week, Storm sensation Ryan Papenhuyzen holds half the Try Scorer market for Melbourne’s clash against the Bulldogs. He’s currently $10 to collect another hat-trick.
  • The Bulldogs are now favourites to finish the season with the most losses. They’re $3.10 compared to the Cowboys at $3.75 and Manly at $4.25. Not helping Canterbury’s cause is this weekend’s match up against the Storm. Melbourne are $1.02 in the Head-to-Head prices with the Bulldogs $12 to produce the upset of the season.
  • The Knights have drifted from $2.25 out to $3.30 against the Titans on the back of Newcastle’s injury crisis that is headlined by Mitchell Pearce’s extended lay-off.
