Kangaroos put virus worries behind

Australia have put a flu scare behind them as they ramp up preparations for Saturday’s Four Nations final against New Zealand.

Coach Tim Sheens was forced to cancel Wednesday’s training session as a virus swept through the Kangaroos camp in Wellington ahead of Saturday’s rugby league showdown at Westpac Stadium.

However the Australians swung back into action on Thursday in an intense session in warm conditions at Porirua Park in the outskirts of Wellington.

Daly Cherry-Evans, Cooper Cronk, Sione Mata’utia and David Klemmer were quarantined on Wednesday, but the quartet all trained strongly and will be fit to play.

Kangaroos forward Corey Parker said the drama was now behind the Australians.

“They were quarantined yesterday, it was a pretty lonely day for the guys but a bit of in-house movies and some room service sorted them out,” Parker said.

“It is just one of those things that happens when you are on tour for a long time and everyone is in everyone’s business.

“It is all good, they have a clean bill of health now.”

Around 200 fans watched the Australians train in the rugby league stronghold about 25 kilometres north of the city centre.

Parker was confident the drama wouldn’t affect Australia’s preparation for the tournament decider.

“It happened to the two playmakers which wasn’t ideal but we will get into training now and knuckle down,” he said.

“We were only scheduled for two session anyway, it is just the timing that has changed.

“We were meant to train yesterday but we will train today and tomorrow instead.

“We will be fine.

“It doesn’t change things too much, we have been in camp for a month now and everything is the same, our structures and everything has been in place for a while now.”
