Bronco Pangai primed for strong NRL finish

Brisbane’s depleted forward pack will lean heavily on Tevita Pangai Jnr’s temperamental hamstrings as the side searches for some consistency ahead of the NRL finals.

The 22-year-old was a key late scratching from last weekend’s thumping at the hands of the New Zealand Warriors.

But he indicated he would be fit to play against Penrith this Friday after training well on Tuesday, in a boost after backrower Jaydn Su’A (ankle) was the latest Bronco to fall.

The Tongan talent has played just two NRL games since June 16, with captain Darius Boyd aware of just how important his health will be in the final third of the season.

“We need him on the field; he wants to be better and probably overtrains occasionally and wants to get the best out of himself.

“But he’s one of our stars, a young kid that’s only going to get better and we haven’t seen the best of him yet.”

The man himself agreed his eagerness may’ve been to his detriment in the past.

“I want to be the best athlete I can be; sometimes I try and overdo it being young,” he said.

“I need to find the balance there … it’s been pretty frustrating, but hopefully I can help the club finish off strong.”
