The home team Brisbane Broncos are the favourites for the match. View our preview and teams for the game between Brisbane Broncos and Penrith Panthers.

When: 19:55 | Friday 15/09/2017

Where: Suncorp Stadium

Preview:

The Broncos head into this game as overwhelming favourites but the Panthers have a lot going for them. The Broncos were far from polished in their two-point loss last week to the Sydney Roosters and coach Wayne Bennett admitted they would have been lucky to beat the 15th and 16th-placed sides given their defensive effort. The Broncos will again be without skipper and fullback Darius Boyd because of a hamstring strain. Kodi Nikorima has been named again at No.1 but Bennett could pull another late selection move. The Broncos have traditionally been strong against the men from the foot of the mountains – winning 62.7 per cent of their match-ups – however have won just four of their past 10 encounters. The Panthers rebounded in style last week against Manly. However they don’t travel well and have won just five of their past 18 games in Queensland. They are also yet to beat a side in the top four this year from four attempts.

Key: Nathan Cleary – he’s been touted as the best young prospect to come into the NRL and, at 19, has been charged with leading his side into a finals campaign. With Matt Moylan out for personal reasons and rookies Dylan Edwards and Tyrone May with Cleary in the spine, there are few people giving him and his side a chance.

NRL News:

Gold Coast favourite Anthony Don was a surprise victor of the Paul Broughton Medal at the NRL club’s awards dinner on Wednesday night.

He beat State of Origin rookies Nathan Peats and Jarrod Wallace to the prize.

Don became the first winger to win the Titans’ top gong in the club’s 11-year history, capping a personally satisfying season in an otherwise bleak Gold Coast campaign.

Don, who has a 2018 contract with the Titans, polled 49 votes in the race, with players and coaching staff nominating their best in a 3-2-1 format after each game.

Peats (47) and Wallace (45) were close behind, while Ashley Taylor was surprisingly not in the top five despite being the only Titans player to play every game this season and finishing with an NRL-best 29 try assists.

Grafton product Don scored 12 tries, many of them freakish, in his 20 appearances and earned his first Country Origin jersey in what was otherwise a season to forget for the Titans.

The NRL-owned club are currently being shopped to potential buyers, while also on the hunt for a new coach after the sacking of Neil Henry with two games remaining this season.

Currently interviewing candidates, the Titans are hopeful of announcing a new coach by mid-October.
