Youthful Jack wins in Tassie

Ross Stitt’s decision to target the Tasmanian summer carnival with Youthful Jack has paid immediate dividends.

The rejuvenated gelding took out the Listed Thetote.com.au Stakes (1200m) at Launceston on Wednesday night with regular rider Robert Thompson in the saddle.

It isn’t the first time Stitt and Thompson have enjoyed success in Tasmania having won the 2006 Launceston Cup with Precise Timing.

Youthful Jack hadn’t won for more than two-and-a-half years before breaking the drought with a victory at Wyong in December and has now won two of his past three starts.

Stitt, who trains at Taree on the NSW mid-north coast, is a part-owner of the six-year-old and has trained him at various times during his career.

However, he transferred Youthful Jack to Tasmanian-based Adam Trinder for his summer campaign which is set to include two more weight-for-age races.

Youthful Jack won Wednesday’s event by a length from Rave Night with former NSW galloper Motspur third.

Meanwhile, top Tasmanian mare Lady Lynette has staved off retirement and will chase back-to-back wins in the Group Three Bow Mistress Stakes (1200m) when she resumes at Hobart on Sunday.

Lady Lynette was sold following her fifth to Hurtle Myrtle in the Myer Classic in October and was set to become a broodmare but the deal didn’t go ahead and connections decided to keep her racing.
