Trainers and vet guilty of cobalt charges

Prominent Melbourne trainers Mark Kavanagh and Danny O’Brien have been found guilty of cobalt charges along with vet Tom Brennan.

The trainers had pleaded not guilty to charges relating to illegal levels of cobalt found in horses in their stables but on Wednesday, the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board found against them.

Brennan, who pleaded guilty to all but one charge against him, admitted he had added a substance to intravenous drips used on horses in the Kavanagh and O’Brien stables but denied knowing it contained high levels of cobalt.
